Compared to the last gen lower-midrange b650 chipset, the b840 chipset: doesn't support pcie gen 5 at all (blocks off the pcie gen 5 lanes from the cpu itself), the chipset itself only supports pcie gen 3 (the only gen 4 lanes are directly from the cpu), has substantially fewer pcie lanes and worse usb support, and doesn't support cpu overclocking (and based off reddit posts that includes not supporting curve optimizer).
The specs for this board can be found here: https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/P...cification
It has a 7+2+1 phase vrm, which is a step up over the true bottom tier 6-phases you'll see on budget m-atx boards, but still quite poor. It also only has a single eps12v 8-pin connector, though considering the mediocre vrm and lack of overclocking support I suppose the lack of power delivery headroom from the psu is a moot point. The primary x16 slot is gen 4, the remaining one x4 slot and three x1 slots are all gen 3. The board only has two m.2 slots (fortunately both gen 4 connected to the cpu), and has 4 sata ports. The array of usb ports is disappointing. Networking is one of the few good things about this board, wifi7 and 2.5gb lan are both quite good, and sorely out of place on such a low tier board.
If this board was $100 I could maybe see an argument being made for it as a budget option, but at $120 it's a significantly worse value than any semi-decent sale on an am5 board for the past couple of years. There have been many superior b650 boards available at or below $140 for over a year. As another example of a recent deal that absolutely decimates this one, for the past 3 days you could've gotten the vastly superior ASUS B650E MAX GAMING WIFI W (a full tier and a half higher than this board) + 32gb (2x16gb) ddr5 6400 cl32 (hynix ram) from newegg for $170: https://slickdeals.net/f/18318430-asus-b650e-max-gaming-wifi-w-am5-atx-motherboard-32gb-team-t-force-delta-rgb-ddr5-6400-cl32-ram-169-99
That deal appears to be out of stock now, but the point stands, this "deal" is a horrendously poor value, and the fact it got 5 upvotes in a few hours is a travesty.
