Probably because in the USA, outdoor cats are destroying wildlife at a rate that is now driving many native species to extinction.

I love putting up bluebird boxes. I have helped a lot of bluebirds have clutches babies throughout the years. These boxes don't last long because I don't seal them or anything with chemicals, but usually I can get them cheaper at Walmart. It just depends, but this is a nice one for the price. The last one I got had a metal roof which helped a lot, especially keeping the predator birds from trying to stick their heads in and kill the baby birds. They slide off because it's metal. But I hope more people put more of these boxes out. It's a real fun thing to watch.
Well since you feed feral cats and don't mind them in your yard I wouldn't put up a bird feeder or a birdhouse for nesting. The cats will definitely get them and I'm sure you wouldn't want to see that but everybody has their own little hobby to help animals

I've considered feeding birds but worry about attracting rodents like mice and rats around my property.

However, I do feed stray and feral cats on my elevated back deck. The deck's height seems to help deter raccoons and skunks, ensuring that only the cats get fed. To further discourage unwanted nuisance animals, I spray the grass and soil beneath the deck with white distilled vinegar once a week—it seems to be working as a deterrent.

Especially true with bluebirds as they are ground feeders and prefer ground sources vs feeders

The cats seem to be nocturnal and only come around at night to be fed.

Hypothetically, I would separate the bird area from the cat zone by at least 5,000 square feet and place the feeder high in a tree. However, I see your point and agree—it's not the smartest idea to feed two types of animals on the same property when they are essentially natural enemies.

Since I have to choose, I'm sticking with the kitties. You can actually pet and enjoy their company, and they seem to appreciate the feedings. Plus, in theory, cats help deter rodents from invading your property. I like to think my home is under Kitty Protection laugh out loud

Good price. I bought the exact bird box in July of 2024 for $15.98. Mine is under my open rafter wrap around porch and the Blue Birds love it.

Where do you put them on? I imagine it will hurt a tree if you nail it on it?

Bought one, should be fun to put it up with the kids and watch the birds come in and out. Based on some of the reviews, I'm planning to mount it up on a metal pole and not on a tree, to make it harder for squirrels to reach it. I have a pole on my backyard deck that I currently use for string lights, and I'm hoping to find a good way to mount this on it.

Generally on a pole with a baffle at the bottom.

Yep. I've brought back about 2500 bluebirds to PA. (i've been doing this a loooong time.) They used to be endangered. But please do a little homework. They need to be spaced properly and checked at least every two weeks.
