Samsung Galaxy Fold Best Buy Preorder Cancellations - $100 Savings Code

I just got an email from Best Buy.

Due to the Samsung Fold snafu, Best Buy sent me a $100 savings code for the cancellation of my preorder.

There seems to be no restrictions other than the usual (gift cards, protection plans, 3rd party purchases).

Check your emails!

Dear xxx,

Thank you for choosing Best Buy to preorder the Galaxy Fold. As a valued Best Buy customer, we want to provide you with an update on your order.
While Samsung continues to make progress in enhancing the Galaxy Fold, a new release date has not yet been announced. Because of this, we want to let you know that we are canceling all current preorders for the Galaxy Fold.
If you are still interested in purchasing the Galaxy Fold, you can request to be notified when the product is available for purchase by visiting our Samsung Galaxy Fold product page here and selecting Notify Me. This will allow us to provide you with the latest updates on Galaxy Fold.
As a thank you for your patience and an apology for canceling your preorder, we are giving you a $100 savings code. You can use this code in our stores or online for a future purchase.
We are working closely with Samsung to deliver the Galaxy Fold to customers as quickly as possible, and we value your continued loyalty to Best Buy.
Sincerely,

Your Best Buy Customer Care Team

Props to Bestbuy for doing this. PSA from Bestbuy rarely got any TU nowadays lol.
Still miss the good ole days when they gave out $75-150 gift card for trade-in old laptop.

Congratulations to maybe 10 people out there who preordered the fold. Not a big loss for BB/Samsung imo.

Anyone wanting to trade a BB (or claiming a $100 XM radio from BB) for a Disney GC let me know. I always buy my XM radio GC from BB because you can use BB GC's since XM is a service. PM me.

I always preorder stuff like this.... either for resale or cancellations.... although it's usually Amazon that consistently offers compensation gift car balance.(usually $20 to $90)

The CEO that took over in 2012, Hubert Joly, seemed like an odd choice at the time since he was from the hospitality sector, but he turned out to be the best thing for Best Buy. He didn't try to beat Amazon by playing their game, instead starting a focus on customer service. It worked:

This sort of move comes right out of his playbook.

I can tell the difference, too. I've actually bought several things from BB in the past couple of years, and I'm not really surprised when it happens any more. If something costs the same, I'll often go pick it up at BB rather than wait for Amazon. Often for electronics, it's a sudden upgrade or replacement need, like when the USB WiFi dongle for my HTPC crapped out on me with almost no warning. Best Buy had the Netgear Nighthawk stuff in stock and at the same price as Amazon, so I was up and running again the next evening.

Pretty big loss for Samsung imo. They were so close to release this thing. Weeks, probably. We'll see if they can make revisions on the current one for release.

Amazon lost a lot of its early advantages , like no sales tax (6-10% savings), cheap Amazon Prime ($75 instead of $100+), easy price matches online on chat, ease of returns without any restocking fees and obviously amazing customer service which went over and above everyone else.
Amazon has lost these advantages and on top of all that they are steadily trying to make more profit from their operations resulting in fewer amazing sales and "price mistakes".
While bestBuy having a consumer oriented CEO might have helped.. I don't see any change in customer service.. BB does benefit from being the only "electronics" store left and has quasi monopoly now.

Any idea if the trade in will be back? Seems to happen less and less. I have some laptops I've been waiting to turn in.

I remember I ordered something during black Friday from BB and items got canceled but they sent me $20 gc for each cancelation... It was amazing

You do realize that a corporation must be run for a profit correct? Just wanted to wake you up from your capitalism induced delusion

Excellent points, especially that BB wins by being the only big box electronics store left -- though I imagine Walmart and/or Target fill that niche for most people.

I've definitely seen an improvement in the customer service at BB, though. There's still a bit of the "upsell" mentality there, but overall I've been impressed with the service the last couple of years. I haven't had to deal much with returns, but we returned a Samsung Galaxy (8, I think?) with absolutely no problem because my wife decided she wanted the Essential Phone for ~$200 less the next day. The in-store floor service has been excellent, too.
